The Developed Country NGO delegation was searching for a new Alternate Board Member for the term June 2016 – June 2018. Annemarie Meyer, the Director of Advocacy and Programmes for Malaria No More, UK, served as the Alternate Board Member from 1 June 2014. We would like to thank Annemarie for all her hard work she has put into that role. Annemarie will continue to be an active member in our delegation.
We conducted various interviews with excellent candidates for the position. The panel consisted of Owen Ryan, Peter van Rooijen and Beate Fülle. After careful consideration and getting back to the delegation, we are excited to announce that Mike Podmore was selected to become our new Alternate Board member for the delegation – with immediate effect!
Mike is the Director of STOPAIDS, the network of 70 UK-based INGOs working on the global HIV response. For the last few years STOPAIDS has convened UK actors across the UK HIV, TB and Malaria communities working on the Global Fund to conduct Global Fund replenishment advocacy as well as engagement on issues of Global Fund strategy and implementation.
Mike has been active on Global Fund issues for many years, particularly for the 4 years he was Policy manager at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance: in 2012 he gave oral evidence to the UK Parliament International Development Select Committee Inquiry into the Global Fund and published ‘Don’t Stop Now! How Underfunding the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria impacts on the HIV response’; in 2012-13 he represented the Alliance in GF consultations over the New Funding Model and in 2014 he was part of the Development Continuum Working Group. Over the years Mike has also worked closely with national advocates and key populations groups in implementing countries to support the greater inclusion of key populations within CCMs and Global Fund concept note development. He has joined the Developed Country NGO Delegation in January 2016.
We feel immensely proud that after a rigorous search, the delegation has decided on such a capable person, and one that knows the Global Fund well, and other important stakeholders in the field.
On behalf of the selection committee and the delegation, we ask you officially to welcome Mike into this important position!
