The Civil Society Developed Country Constituency had various interviews with excellent candidates for the position of the new Board member in the last days. The panel consisted of Annemarie Meyer, Peter van Rooijen, Kerstin Ackerfeldt, Michael O’Connor (external) and Beate Fülle (lead). After consulting with the delegation, the panel decided to appoint Owen Ryan to become new Board member.
Owen is currently the ED for the International Aids Society based in Geneva. He has extensive knowledge with working with the GF Board, as he served as the ABM (and CFP) for the Private Foundations from 2011-13.
And though Owen won’t officially take up his new role until after the 34th Board meeting from 16-17 November, he will be attending the Board meeting in Geneva next week and ensure that the Board has an opportunity to meet him in person.
Big thanks to Ton Coenen
The Developed Country NGO Delegation would also like to thank the current Board member Ton Coenen for his excellent leadership in the last two years!
It was such a pleasure working with you, Ton!
Ton will be transitioning out slowly until the next Board meeting in April 2016.
Ton will also leave Aids Fonds – STOP AIDS NOW! – Soa Aids after 12 years, as he has been appointed as the new executive director of Rutgers, the national institute for sexual and reproductive health and rights, in the Netherlands.
We hope that we do have an opportunity to stay connected given our mutual commitment to combat the three diseases and promoting global health.
Warm welcome to Owen Ryan
We feel immensely proud that after a rigorous search, the delegation has decided on such a capable person, and one that knows the Global Fund well, and other important stakeholders in the field.
May we ask you officially to welcome Owen into this important position!
